The Studio

This has been my remote office workspace, our laundry room as well as the place that I keep all of our tools. The enclosed space is roughly 10’x12, with a 4’x10′ porch on the front, making the overall footprint 16’x10′. Included with the sale of the property is everything that you see in the photos, as we are leaving all of this when we head back to the mainland. First up is the bedroom area on the loft. There is an LED strip light that runs up from the main level, to the ceiling beam and all the way across that gives plenty of lighting in this area. There is a twin bed, a shelving unit and a rolling crate that we used to hold clothing. The size of this loft is roughly ten feet wide by eight feet deep, and is just over five feet tall at the peak of the roof. This makes a great sleeping space for visitors, and our kittens love getting up there as well.

The main floor has the propane dryer and electric washer, with the water tank (a 94 gallon garbage can) for the washer and propane tank for the dryer on the other side of the wall. Both units are older but work great, and are old enough that you can repair them if something goes wrong instead of having to replace them. They are large enough to wash and dry all of our clothes for a week in one load, or to do two blankets in a load. We use an eco friendly soap as we drain the washing machine discharge out onto the lava, but you could also capture it to use in watering the trees.

Next to the washer and dryer is the shelving that holds all of the tools that will be staying, and there is a lot here. On the floor is a 12 inch DeWalt sliding chop saw, and we are also leaving behind a generator that is large enough to power it. It can pull upwards of 4000 watts on startup or under a heavy cutting load, so I do not recommend trying to run it on the solar power system. All of the other DeWalt tools are cordless, and use the same 20 volt interchangeable batteries.

The tools included are:
DCN21PL Framing Nailer
DCS356 Oscillating Tool
DCW600 Fixed Base Router
DCW200 Variable Speed Sander
DCS391 6.5″ Circular Saw
DCS367 Reciprocating Saw
DCG413 Angle Grinder
DCH273 SDS Rotary Hammer
DCF887 Impact Driver
DCD996 Hammer Drill
DCS335 Jig Saw
DCPS620 Pole Saw
DCST922 14in String Trimmer
DCV501H Stick Vacuum
DCV517 1/2 Gallon Wet / Dry Vacuum
4x 6AH batteries
4x 5AH Batteries
2X 4AH Batteries
3x Chargers

Whew, that was a lot to go over. Also included are various other tools that we have used to build every structure on the property or to help clear the property. They are all well taken care of and still work great. Also on the shelves are ratchet straps, squeeze clamps, hole saws, drill bits, saw blades and a pile of different screws. There are also three bins of various wires, connectors, fuses and heat shrink that were used in setting up the electrical system. There are other miscellaneous pieces and tools as well, but I think you get the idea.

Across the room, we come to my work from home area. There are two adjustable standing desks, with the one on the left being the one that I use every day. My laptop is not included in the sale, but everything else is staying here. The is a 32in 4k monitor with desk mount. On the right side is a laptop tray on its own desk mount that can hold anything up to a very large laptop, mine is an Asus ROG Duo, which is a pretty large and heavy desktop replacement, and it has been great. I am also leaving behind the GoPro Hero 9 that I use as a webcam, and my microphone. This all plugs into a USB hub under the desk, so all you need to plug into your laptop is a single HDMI cable, a single USBA cable and you power cord, and this will all just work. I am also leaving behind my Canon scanner / printer, with two brand new high capacity ink cartridges installed.

The standing desk on the right is set up in much the same way, but more simply. It has a 32in 1080p monitor on a desk mount on the left, and a laptop stand on the right. This is a much more simple setup, that my son used to do his homework. Bothe desks come with office chairs that are in very decent condition, and still have a lot of life in them. I have put a pair of smaller grow lights under here, one over the desks and the other over the washer and dryer.

Looking outside the studio, and you can see a stack of four saw horses that have been well used, as you can tell by the cuts and the paint on them. Next to that is the generator that I mentioned that we use with the chop saw. It is a bit overkill, and is old and tired, but it works great in this application. next to that is a Champion wood chipper. We bought this used and have kept it going, and it works great to turn branches and brush that we have cleared into chips that we have used in many different places around the property.

On this side of the studio you can see the propane tank and garbage can that I mentioned are used for the washer and dryer, and while a garbage can may seem like a weird choice it was very affordable, and hold enough water to do three medium loads in the washing machine. I would not use this for water that I was planning on drinking, but it has worked great here and we have a sixty gallon one that we use with the outdoor shower.

Moving over to the front of the studio, you can see the Starlink dish that I mentioned earlier, This runs down into the base Starlink modem inside of the structure, and I connect to it in there via WiFi. We have the Starlink modem connected into an 8 port switch, which has 4 48v POE ports and 4 gigabit networking ports. There are two POE cameras plugged into the system, one if mounted onto the side of the studio and looks out at center tree and the driveway, and the other one keeps an eye on the gate and road. One of the gigabit ports is wired into a network cable that runs up to The Cabin and into a wireless router up there, providing internet to the back of the property.
